Society
Dementia is a big issue for the people who are directly affected by it. This applies to the person suffering from dementia as well as their loved ones.
Dementia is also a social issue in the sense that services need to be developed within the social and health care system where families affected by dementia can get the best possible advice, support, activities, treatment and nurturing.
We all make up society.
Society is also the attitudes we take towards each other, towards disease, aging and dementia. Personal fears may be one reason that people do not want to go to the doctor for memory problems. But it can also be due to myths and taboos about dementia and the conditions society offers ill and weakened (elderly) people.
Society is constantly undergoing change. And so does the available information about dementia and the services people with dementia and their loved ones need.
This section is about this interplay between society and dementia.
